Greetings,

Applications are open for a KNH Faculty-Led, Summer Study Abroad: Sport, Management, and Culture in the Global Marketplace: England, Scotland, & Ireland (Summer 2020). For the 6-credit course, students will travel to London (England), Edinburgh (Scotland), and Dublin (Ireland) from June 5, 2019-June 27, 2020 to examine the management of sport in British and Irish societies.

This program is open to students of all majors and academic backgrounds. However, it is intended for SLAM students with personal and professional interests in the area(s) of: sport management, sport leadership, sport marketing and communication, tourism and hospitality management, sport sociology, sport coaching, sport science, kinesiology, public health, and/or physical education. 

Students enrolled in the course will receive six (6) credits and fulfill their Global Miami Plan. Students will enroll in either KNH 499 (6 credits) or KNH 499 (3) & KNH 414 (3). This program will be useful to those KNH students still needing to satisfy their KNH Matrix (KNH 499) and/or Facility and Event Management (KNH 414) requirements for graduation.

The cost of the program is $4,430. The program fee includes accommodation, meals, site visits, group meetings, activities, and sporting event tickets. Students will also be responsible for airfare (~$1200) and tuition per credit. 

Admission to the program is rolling – applications will be reviewed in the order in which they are receive. The final deadline to apply is March 1st, 2020. To apply, students should go to the Miami Global Initiatives website: http://miamioh.edu/global-initiatives/study-abroad/

Experience first hand many perspectives of health in a developing country, and consider how healthcare is delivered when resources are scarce, understand context surrounding the complexity of health care in an African country, with both acute and chronic needs, engage with different health professionals, faculty, and students to discuss problems and potential solutions, and learn about various action plans on both global and local scales to address health concerns in The Gambia. Approximate trip cost: $3000 + tuition, financial assistance is possible.
